Monica’s love for cats started at a young age, and her dream of owning one came true when she was nine years old. She and her furry friend grew up together in Canada, forming an unbreakable bond. Monica is now a young woman, and her cat Pico is a sweet senior boy with a unique feature that has caught attention on social media. Pico suffers from bilateral glaucoma, which has caused him to lose his sight completely. However, Monica’s love for him remains unchanged, and she is determined to make his life beautiful until the end. I had the pleasure of speaking with Monica after reading about Pico in an article and learning more about their heartwarming story. So, let’s all meet Pico!
What’s the story behind how Pico became a part of your life? Well, it all started when I was just nine years old. I had always wanted a cat and after much persuasion, my parents finally agreed that I could have one as a birthday present. We decided to adopt a kitty from the vet who needed a loving home. When we reached out to them, they informed us about a cat who had been in a car accident and was recovering from a coma. Upon meeting him, we realized that he was the perfect fit for our family. He was cute, cuddly, and sweet – we knew we had to bring him home with us. (Fun fact: he had green eyes at that time!) Now, coming to his name – my dad thought of the name “Pico” for him. This is because of the dots on his body, which reminded my dad of the word ‘pico’ in French, meaning ‘dots’. And that’s how our little Pico got his unique and adorable name!
Can you describe his personality? He’s very attention-seeking and affectionate, just like a big baby. He enjoys following me around the house for some cuddles and loves sleeping beside me on the bed. His favorite thing is being brushed, and he can’t get enough of it! Are there other pets in the house? No, we keep him as the only pet to ensure his safety and well-being. What are his favorite pastimes? His favorite activities are eating and sleeping, with food making him particularly excited. During summer, he enjoys spending time outside, exploring his surroundings and soaking up some sun. Meet Starfish, the adorable ginger rescue cat who has won hearts across the pond!
Do you know what makes Pico extraordinary? He may be blind, but he navigates his way around the house with ease. I’ve been his owner for eight years now, and our bond is unbreakable. Despite his condition, he doesn’t feel any pain, and I regularly take him to the vet for eye drops to help him. Rest assured that I treat him like royalty and would do anything for him.
