The San Francisco 49ers will host the New York Jets in Week 1 on Monday Night and San Francisco cornerback Charvarius Ward plans on stealing the show in primetime.
Appearing on sports talk show host Kay Adams ‘Up & Adams Show’, Adams asked Ward if he would be able to take the ball from and intercept Jets’ quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
Ward responded by saying he has to get the opportunity to pick off Rodgers by Rodgers throwing the ball toward him, and he will most likely shadow the Jets’ No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson.
“Hopefully, hopefully, A-rod throw me one. I’m going to try to pick him off and him sign the ball for me. He’s got to give me the opportunity, I’ll show up and follow Garrett Wilson around, that’s his name, right? I’ll probably follow him around, I’m the big dawg, so we’re going to see.”
Adams then asked Ward if he would ask Rodgers for an autograph if he picked him off. Ward said he would go up to Rodgers after the game asking for him to sign the ball he intercepted.
Ward answered:
“Absolutely, after the game, on the field, I’m going to ask him to sign right there. Aaron Rodgers is a pretty cool guy. I’ve played against him a few times when I was in Kansas City, he’s a hell of a player.”
Charvarius Ward says the Chiefs are the only team that give the 49ers problems
The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the best teams in the NFL the last five years. They’ve made it two Super Bowls in that span and have one of the highest win percentages in the league since then.
While San Fran has been to two recent Super Bowls, they failed to win each time, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs twice.
Speaking on Kay Adams’ Show in the same episode, Ward says that when Patrick Mahomes brings his A-game, the Chiefs are the only team that can give the 49ers problems.
Ward said:
“It’s just when you go up against the Michael Jordan of the NFL, which is [QB] Patrick Mahomes, that’s a tough matchup. But I don’t think anybody really can beat us outside of Patrick Mahomes bringing his A-game like he did in the Super Bowl.”
“We’ve got to beat them, boys. They’ve been tearing our [explative] up for a while. We’ve got to beat them. They’re the champs. I feel like that’s the only team that’s been giving us problems. So, sh** we’ve got to go out there and try to beat them boys.”
The 49ers will host the Chiefs in Week 7 at Levi’s Stadium this season on October 20 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
Do you think Ward and the 49ers wil avenge their Super Bowl loss or will the Chiefs get the better of them again?
