But before he could warn his girlfriend about the rules, the little mogwai startles her and she pours water on him in fear of the little creature, creating more of them.

Billy Jr. not knowing what to do decides to put them in boxes and take them on an airplane to new york to try to find his dad. Of course the mogwais eat after midnight and hatch on the plane causing the newest batch to wreak havoc in the sky and in an airport.
