The San Francisco 49ers have resolved the contract situation of one of the two star players missing the team’s OTAs– Jauan Jennings. Besides Brandon Aiyuk, sorting Jennings’ contract extension was a crucial business for the franchise, especially considering his Super Bowl MVP-worthy performance last season.
The 49ers are known to possess one of the best-receiving squads across the league, having Deebo Samuel, Aiyuk, Jennings, newly drafted Ricky Pearsall, and Danny Gray. While Aiyuk’s contract situation remains disputed, the 49ers offered Jennings a two-year extension, covering throughout the 2025 season.
Jennings was sitting out the Niners’ OTAs by not signing his restricted free-agent tender. But this new contract offers him $15.4 million for the next two years, including $10.5 million guaranteed as agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Playing as receiver no. 3, Jennings recorded 78 total receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns across his previous three seasons. He has been a reliable third receiver for the 49ers and is a crucial part of their offense.
However, there is still a crucial and not-to-mention urgent business of San Francisco to take care of before the preseason. That’s finding on the satisfactory ground in terms of his extension, which he believes is worthy to be close to Samuel’s $71.5 million deal.
Not that Jennings’ on-field performance with the 49ers lagged in any manner, but one that got him the extension was the Super Bowl LVIII game against the Kansas City Chiefs. In the Super Bowl game, he demonstrated his versatility under pressure by contributing to both of 49ers touchdowns.
The wide receiver finished the season with 19 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown. His speciality is in third down – as out of 78 catches of his NFL career, 40 were recorded on third down while 32 were for first down.
After sorting Samuel first, the 49ers have now secured Jennings for two more seasons and now their priority ought to be securing Aiyuk through contract negotiation. Given, that they are a legitimate Super Bowl contender next season, all eyes will be on them to handle the disputed contract negotiations.
