In the trailer for The Boys season 4, Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) describes wanting to turn over a new leaf with the team. Fed up with the violence, he suggests the team start acting a little more human, and with M.M. in charge, wishes like Hughie’s may actually carry some weight.
However, the leadership change could also be problematic by resulting in a power struggle between M.M. and Butcher. Butcher is still in the picture and presents the team with an unhinged plot to infect all Supes with a deadly virus. Although he is taking over the boys, it’s unclear if M.M. can convince them to choose his way of doing things rather than Butcher’s.
The Boys’ season 3 ending also left M.M. and Butcher in quite a tough place, with the former appearing ready to give up on his friend after so many betrayals and disappointments.
It’s possible that instead of making amends, the tension between the two could rise further as they grapple for the boys’ allegiance. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see how The Boys’ titular team functions under M.M.’s leadership.
