There are a lot of exciting things to expect from the highly-anticipated John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which is set to come out in the summer of 2024 and add to the burgeoning John Wick universe created by former stunt person Chad Stahelski.
When Stahelski teamed up with beloved star Keanu Reeves to chronicle the titular assassin’s saga of revenge, the pair never anticipated it becoming a worldwide hit series that transformed the action genre, but after having worked together on the similarly pioneering Matrix movies, it was hardly unmerited. Now, the franchise known for its stylish action scenes and fight choreography adds another installment set in the same criminal underworld.
Positioned in the John Wick timeline between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, when the infamous assassin is recovering from some serious injuries, Ballerina follows Ana de Arms as Rooney, training to become a contract killer by the same powerful crime family who adopted John years before.
The cast of Ballerina characters includes Reeves in a brief role, as well as other well-known faces in the franchise, but they aren’t the only reason fans are looking forward to the spinoff. From the story and world-building to the performances, there are plenty of reasons that June can’t get here fast enough.
