Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his team after their outstanding performance at the Emirates Stadium this season, hence plans for the summer transfer window are gathering steam.
The Gunners are comfortably positioned to be in contention for a third season running in the Premier League and Champions League, having entered the Premier League title bаttle.
Arsenal’s base seems strong, but more work is clearly needed, especially in midfield—a position that Edu and Arteta are concentrating on. Xavi Simons, who has been heralded as Kevin De Bruyne’s successor, is a reported Arsenal target, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Only 21 years old, Simons has an outstanding background having graduated from Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia academy and joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. February 2021 saw his professional debut for PSG, and that season he won the Coupe de France and the Ligue 1. After a fruitful time with PSV Eindhoven, where he won several awards, Simons returned to PSG and is now on loan at RB Leipzig.
Romano claims PSG is more likely to loan Simons out for the upcoming season than to make a permanent deal. The gifted midfielder is allegedly wаnted by Arsenal and other Premier League teams.
Before the Euros, Xavi Simons and PSG will decide his future, but PSG doesn’t want to sell him this summer, Romano wrote on X. Also, RB Leipzig cannot afford a permanent transfer. Most likely choice is a loan move; Barça is pushing, Leipzig and Premier League clubs are interested. Xavi will be able to influence the loan choice.
As said today, the most practical and realistic choice for Xavi Simons is still a new loan for the upcoming season. Sale is being ruled out at this point, but the ultimate decision will be decided at a new meeting very shortly.
Rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have taken note of Simons’ potential; Manchester City has also shown interest in the Dutchman as a possible De Bruyne replacement.
This season, Simons has played 42 games for RB Leipzig, scoring nine goals and dishing out 15 assists. Arsenal finds him appealing because of his versatility and potential. They may look at a first loan agreement, like they did with Martin Odegaard, before thinking about a permanent transfer down the road
