Kate Middleton is in Copenhagen on her first overseas trip since 2019. The Duchess of Cambridge is on an official visit on behalf of the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which she works closely with back home in the UK.

While in Denmark, she’ll learn about some of the country’s innovative early childhood development programs and get a firsthand look at the projects in action. “Denmark is a beacon of best practice in its approach to the early years, with a culture which prioritises the best start in life,” the Duchess of Cambridge wrote in a tweet announcing the trip earlier this month.

She started off her solo engagements on Tuesday with an appearance at the University of Copenhagen to meet with officials from the Center for Early Intervention and Family Studies. She also attended a museum, where she discussed Copenhagen Infant Mental Health Program, before stopping by the Lego PlayLab.

After learning about early childhood development among babies and infants on the first day of her visit, she spent Wednesday learning about the subsequent stage of development—childhood. Later, Kate met with Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II, who is celebrating her 50th year on the throne, and had lunch with Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Kate then accompanied the Princess to a women’s crisis center to learn more about the important support they provide.
