Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will not slow down as he enters his 12th season in the NFL, and in truth, did we expect anything less?
The future Hall of Famer, who will turn 35 this year and is coming off one of his worst seasons statistically in 2023, is ready to restock, reload, and go again in 2024.
With the Chiefs aiming for three successive Super Bowl titles, Kelce looms as a critical piece of what the franchise is aiming to do.
But if you thought he was ready to take a back seat, you couldn’t be more wrong.
“Wear and tear me baby, I’m ready for it man, put the load on me,” Kelce said at Chiefs minicamp. “I love being accountable for these the men and women in this building and Chief’s Kingdom. I love the aspect of everybody counting on me to try and make that play for the team and just do the right things out there on the field. I don’t think that anything from last year put more miles on me, made me less of a player I think it was all it was just focus being my own worst critic, capitalizing in situations that I should of.”
Kelce had his fair share of critics last year, with some even stating that Father Time was knocking on Kelce’s door due to his “down” year.
He had the fewest receiving yards, touchdowns, and worst yards per game since 2015, but despite that, when push came to shove in the playoffs, he was again a crucial player for the Chiefs offense, totaling 355 yards and three touchdowns from 32 receptions in four postseason games.
Now, as he enters Year 12 refreshed and ready to help his team achieve history, he will have help alongside him in Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy.
Although he is approaching the end of his illustrious career, Kelce has no plans to retire quietly.
“I’m gonna do it until the wheels fall off,” Kelce said.
And he might just keep going after that, too.
