Is there nothing as sacred as a rivalry? Not to mention, a Texas rivalry. Everything is bigger and Texas, and that includes disdain for your opponent.
As it turns out, Gregg Popovich is not a born-and-raised Texan. He is from Indiana, and a world-traveling retired member of the Air Force to boot.
So when asked who he was rooting for in the NBA, he went with the I-35 rival Dallas Mavericks.
“Go Mavs! C’mon, Mark (Cuban), kick ass!”
Sure, this was Pop catering to fan, but he had to know this would go viral. It is reminiscent of when Tim Duncan, just finishing and overtime Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals in 2014, told sideline report David Aldridge, “We’ve got four more. We’ll do it this time.”
Caused a stir with the press and a chuckle between Duncan and LeBron James once the Final commenced.
What do Spurs fans think? Will you be rooting for the Mavs in a Celtics/Mavs Finals? Or are you rooting for the Minnesota Timberwolves to make the ultimate comeback and break the barrier set by 155 previous teams who were down 0-3 in an NBA playoff series?
