Taking fashion TRIPS from Harry? Meghan Markle wears chic £595 linen suit for a mushroom trip’ as the couple step out in LA

The Duchess of Sussex took sports fan chic to a new level at a basketball game in LA which she attended with her husband as she stepped out in a stylish brand which markets itself as ideal for ‘an occasional mushroom trip’.

Meghan, 41, watched the LA Lakers with Prince Harry, 38, who revealed in his bombshell memoir Spare earlier this year that he hallucinated a bin was speaking to him after he took magic mushrooms.

The Duchess stunned in the pink linen Maxwell two-piece from STAUD, which costs £360 for the blazer and £235 for the shorts.

As she celebrated the Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 117 to 111 at the Crypto.com arena with the Duke and her Archewell staff, the Duchess layered the jacket over a white top and beige suede pumps.

The heels appeared to be from the AQUAZZURA Purist collection while she carried a Prada Bibliotheque leather chain clutch which costs around £1,700.

In Prince Harry’s explosive memoir, which was published in January, he claimed he had had a bad trip on magic mushrooms while at a party with friends.

The prince said they spied a box of mushroom chocolates in a fridge and decided to eat them before washing them down with tequila.

The trip did not go as intended however, with the duke ending up having a terrifying experience with a bin in the bathroom.

He wrote: ‘Beside the toilet was a round silver bin, the kind with a foot pedal to open the lid. I stared at the bin. It stared back. Then it became… a head.

‘I stepped on the pedal and the head opened its mouth. A huge open grin.

‘I laughed, turned away, took a p***. Now the loo became a head too. The bowl was its gaping maw, the hinges of the seat were its piercing silver eyes. It said, “Aaah”.’

As Meghan stepped out last night in the chic linen suit from STAUD, she was repping a brand that has described its loose cuts and light material as ‘a feminine aura that’s equal parts seductive and self-governing’.

Its website describes its design as fit fot ‘the occasional mushroom trip or jaunt to the beach (or both)’.

The brand, based in LA, was founded in 2015 by Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto and sells itself as a fashion house that builds wardrobe staples according to ‘science’, but adds that this is the case if science is ‘based on emotion instead of formulas’.

In the brand’s founding story which is on its website, it is claimed that STAUD is designed to ’empower women’ but is also meant to be ‘accessible’.

As Meghan and Harry cosied up for the kisscam which zoomed in on them, Meghan’s bright, summery suit stood out from the crowd of sports fans in jeans and darker colours.

The Duchess wore the blazer open, with pushed-up sleeves and accessorised with gold bangles around her wrists.

As the kiss cam focused in on the Sussexes, the pair smiled and waved.

Thousands began clapping and cheering, encouraging them to kiss. Harry then appeared to lean in for a smooch but his wife laughed and grabbed his arm instead of bowing to the crowd. Harry then pulled a comical grimace.

But despite the light-hearted snub, Meghan and Harry did enjoy a snuggle as the Lakers won the game 117 to 111, taking a 3-1 lead in the first round playoffs against the Grizzlies.

Sat with them was Rick Genow, a LA power lawyer and adviser to the couple since they stepped down as working royals and moved to the US.

Footage of them enjoying the match was also featured on the NBA’s official Twitter feed with the hashtag #NBACelebRow.

It was the couple’s first appearance together since it was announced Prince Harry would be attending the King’s coronation in London next month, but Meghan will remain in the US.

It came hours after a beaming Meghan broke cover for the first time the coronation news was announced.

Introducing her photographer friend Misan Harriman in a video ahead of his Ted Talk, the Duchess of Sussex said she was ‘thrilled’ to welcome him on stage where the audience heard him speak about experience capturing the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.

Meghan and Harry are very close to Mr Harriman and his wife Camilla Holmstroem, and the royal couple asked him to photograph them for their second pregnancy announcement, in a black-and-white picture in which they lie barefoot together under the trees in their California garden.

Mr Harriman, who worked in finance before becoming a photographer in 2016, was also asked to take pictures at Lilibet’s first birthday party at Frogmore Cottage during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last June.

In the video introduction, Meghan said: ‘Our next speaker has an unmatched eye for a good photograph. I have experienced his talent firsthand as he has captured many meaningful milestones for me and my family.’

Referencing his activism and his work capturing the Black Lives Matter protests, she said: ‘His lens has captured everything from events that have changed the world, moments that we all desperately needed to see along with some of the planets most recognisable faces.

‘But this was not always his path, and you might be surprised to hear not who, but what, he credits for his success.’
