Scottie Scheffler faces an unprecedented challenge in front of him. The World No. 1 golfer was arrested by the Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning after he attempted to drive into the Valhalla Golf Club, where the PGA Championship is ongoing.

He has since been released by the police. The activity at the course came to a standstill after a man died after he was hit by a shuttle bus at around 5 a.m. E.T.

As per ESPN, Scottie Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. Out of all these charges, the assault charge is a felony, whereas the rest are misdemeanors. Scheffler was attempting to drive around the crash scene on a median.

Despite being told by the police officers to stop and not drive around the crash scene, he disregarded their instructions and proceeded to drive around 10–20 yards toward the entrance.

An officer escalated the situation after he stuck onto one side of the golfer’s car, which led him to finally stop the car as he turned into the entrance of the Valhalla Golf Club. Of course, the entire incident was shocking, as he is due on course at 10:08 AM.

With respect to his availability status for Round 2 of the PGA Championship, his attorney, Steven Romines, has said it is up to Scheffler if he wants to play in the second round or not. He has been released and is eligible to play.

His attorney defended him and stated that he was merely attempting to enter the Valhalla Club to work out and get ready for his tee time. Scottie Scheffler was oblivious to the fact that there had been a fatality nearby earlier that day.

The sight of the world’s best golfer being dragged away in cuffs by police was unsettling, to say the least. Fans online could not believe that he was being taken into custody, and that too on a day when it is of paramount importance for him to show up. Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, take a look at their reactions to Scheffler’s arrest on X:

Could not have said it better.

If you really think about it, he did nothing. He should have been briefed about the situation in a proper manner by the cops before being handcuffed and taken into custody.

Scottie Scheffler has won the last four of his last five competitions. At the PGA Championship, he carded a four-under-par 67 in Round 1 on Thursday.

The highlight of the day was his 167-yard nine-iron for an eagle-two on the opening hole—a phenomenal start for him indeed. His troubles with the law aside, the recently-turned-father is in pursuit of his third successive victory after he won the Masters and the RBC Heritage in April.
